Our Materials
All our pieces at Remicity start with a 925 sterling silver base, providing a durable and long-lasting foundation for the jewelry. We never use brass or other base metals like copper, lead, and nickel as the base of our jewelry pieces. By using only sterling silver for our base and then plating in gold or rhodium, we are able to ensure that the jewelry we offer is of the highest quality and durability, while still remaining affordable. And to top it all off, we treat each jewelry piece with anti-tarnish coating to ensure long-lasting durability. To learn more about each material we use, please read more below.
Cubic Zirconia
Cubic zirconia is a lab-made stone that can closely resemble a diamond. It is made from a crystal form of zirconium dioxide and is a popular alternative to a diamond because it offers similar visual characteristics at a fraction of the cost. However, not all cubic zirconias are the same. It comes in a range of qualities, ranked from AB (the lowest quality) to AAAAA (the highest quality). Remicity uses only the highest quality cubic zirconia – AAAAA grade – in our products. This means our stones have brilliance, the best clarity and finish, and great durability. To deliver on our mission of offering affordable, high quality jewelry, we set our AAAAA grade cubic zirconia in precious metals – gold, sterling silver, and rhodium.
925 Sterling Silver
925 sterling silver is a type of silver alloy that is made up of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals. Non-sterling silver products contain silver but not necessarily a high percentage of it. Sterling silver is a high-quality metal that is valued for its beauty and durability. It is also relatively easy to care for. It can be polished to a high shine and will retain its luster for many years with proper care. However, real sterling silver is also prone to tarnishing over time due to the small percentage of copper mixed with the silver, which is required in order to make the jewelry hard and durable. 100% pure silver is rare and not a good choice in jewelry, as it is too soft and breakable. This is a natural and expected process that can be addressed with regular cleaning and proper care.
Gold
Gold is a precious metal that is commonly used in jewelry. It is valued for its beauty, durability, and resistance to tarnishing. Remicity’s gold-plated pieces are made with 14k gold. This is the most common type of gold used in jewelry because it is more durable than 18k gold yet has a similar color.
Rhodium
Rhodium is a rare, silver-white metal that is part of the platinum family of metals. It is highly valued for its durability, shine, and resistance to tarnishing. It is considered the rarest and most valuable precious metal in the world — ranking much higher than both gold and silver. In jewelry, rhodium is primarily used for plating other metals. Rhodium adds shine, luster, and durability to our jewelry and protects against scratches and tarnish. Rhodium is also hypoallergenic, making it a great option for people with sensitivities.
